David Hansen (that’s me!) is a congregational pastor, serving at Spirit of Joy! Lutheran Church (in the neighborhood? Stop by for worship on Sundays!). Congregational ministry – from preaching every Sunday to pastoral care to even the administrative spreadsheets – gives me great joy, and is a wonderful privilege.
In my work as a pastor, I have seen the truth that church is more than congregation and that when we can help each other to share the Good News and grow God’s Kingdom, we should. That whole “body of Christ” thing that Paul talked about is not just a great sermon illustration, it’s true. When one part suffers, we all suffer – when one part thrives, we all thrive.
To that end, for the last decade I have been helping congregations and leaders to share the Good News in new ways – using digital tools to help us both share the message of the Gospel and build stronger communities.
Alongside my role as a congregational pastor, I also serve as the Director of Communications and Innovation at LEAD (Living Everyday As Disciples). The the primary work of LEAD is to transform and renew congregations – and this work has beenextremely helpful to me as pastor of what the ELCA calls a “Redevelopment” (a congregation undergoing significant renewal). You should check out our LEAD website – there are some phenomenal resources there, too.
I live in The Woodlands, Texas (a suburb of Houston), where I survive the constant humidity along with my wife, Megan, our daughter, and our herd of cats. Together, we love exploring the ways popular culture and faith intersect, exploring Houston, drinking too much coffee, and generally having entirely too much fun.
